Water Heater Safety Tips

Water Damage Water Heater Safety Tips Water Heater Damage

Water heater failure causes fires and flooding all across the world. Water heater routine maintenance can help you avoid the catastrophe the occurs when a water heater fails. Nationwide insurance recently offered some tips about water heater safety that we would like to share with you.

Pulling up on the handle to make sure water flows freely out, and stops when you let go of the handle. If it does nothing or runs or drips, then the valve should be replaced.

Strapping your water heater is a good idea, even if you live outside an earthquake zone. If your water heater were to fall over for any reason, it could sever the gas line and cause an explosion.

Flushing the hot water heater through the drain valve at least once a year to remove sediment buildup. You should have a drain line, usually to within about 6 inches of the floor, or plumbed outside. This is to prevent you from being scalded if the valve should open while you’re standing next to it.

Remove paper, accumulated dust or other combustibles from the heater enclosure.

Extinguish the pilot light before using flammable liquids or setting off aerosol bug bombs.

If the device is in the garage, raise it so the pilot light is 18 inches above the floor. This helps prevent ignition of gasoline vapors that collect near the floor.

Consider installing an automatic gas-shutoff valve which stops the flow of gas if the ground moves or if gas flow increases dramatically. The valve, which costs around $300, prevents fires when a gas line breaks due to flood, earthquake or other disaster.

You may also want to insulate the first 6 feet of the hot water pipe and the first 3 feet of the cold water pipe that extends from your hot water tank. Insulating the hot water pipe reduces heat loss and insulating the cold water pipe reduces “sweating” in the summer. You can find pipe wrap insulation for this purpose in most hardware stores.

Do not use pipe wrap or any other insulation within 6 inches of the draft hood or flue exhaust vent at the top of the natural gas water heater.

3 Simple Ways to Reduce Your Risk of Water Damage This Summer

Water Damage 3 Simple Ways to Reduce Your Risk of Water Damage This Summer Dirt filled gutters

Summer is almost here and that means storms are just around the corner. While all that rain may help cool things off, it can put your home at risk for water damage. While an experienced storm damage restoration team will be able to fix most problems caused by harsh weather, it’s best if you can avoid the damage in the first place. Here are a few simple ways to prevent storm damage and subsequent issues from doing long-term harm to your house.

3 Ways to Prevent Storm-Related Water Damage

1. Prune Your Trees

Whether it’s a hurricane or tropical storm that batters the coast, you can always count on high winds causing a lot of problems. One of the most common causes of leaks and roof damage is due to falling limbs, but there’s a simple way to prevent this problem. Before the first storm hits, have your trees professionally pruned and remove any dead or low-hanging limbs. This will reduce the risk of a falling limb damaging the roof or siding.

2. Clean Out Your Gutters

If your gutters are clogged, runoff from the roof collects between the gutters and the home’s siding. Over time, this can lead to mold and mildew growth in the walls as well as weaken the integrity of your roof, making leaks more frequent. Have the gutters cleaned and inspected for damage at least once in the spring and again before winter. This way, you’ll never have to worry about backed up gutters and all excess water can flow off the roof and away from the home easily.

3. Fix Existing Roof Damage

Anytime the materials of the roof are compromised or damaged, they can allow water to seep inside the attic. Walk around the exterior of the home and give the roof a quick visual inspection. If you see any shingles or roofing material that is peeling up, missing, or cracked, have a roofing contractor come make the necessary repairs. This will help protect the home during periods of heavy rainfall and will reduce the number and frequency of leaks you see in the house.

At SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach, their dedicated team understands the unique hazards Florida homeowners face each year. Whether you’re in need of water damage restoration or want an experienced professional to handle extensive carpet cleaning after a flash flood, they’re ready to help. Learn more about their services online and call (904) 429-4457 to schedule an estimate today.

3 Reasons to Hire a Carpet Cleaning Professional for Flood Damage

Water Damage 3 Reasons to Hire a Carpet Cleaning Professional for Flood Damage Water Cleanup

Flood and water damage can quickly ruin carpeting, and while there are home remedies, most only slow the problem rather than fixing it. To truly resolve the issue, it’s best to bring in a professional. An expert carpet cleaning company will address water-related issues that rental and store-bought tools simply can’t. They will not only return your carpet to its original form but also ensure that it stays there. If you’ve suffered flood or water damage, consider the benefits of a professional carpet cleaning below.

3 Reasons to Hire a Professional Carpet Cleaning Service

1. Experience

Water removal isn’t an easy process. It requires care and attention to ensure that the padding below carpet, as well as the flooring, is also fixed. It’s more than just cleaning the fibers, which is why you should always turn to experienced professionals. They work in several different scenarios and tackle a variety of issues, ensuring they have the knowledge to complete the job successfully.

2. Equipment

Renting professional carpet cleaning equipment can cost hundreds of dollars, and in many cases, it isn’t effective because homeowners don’t know how to properly use it. Professionals bring industry-leading equipment with them to the job and know how to use it safely and effectively to achieve the best results.

3. Mold Prevention

Clean carpets aren’t the end of the problem. In many cases, water that seeps through can later cause mold to form. Letting it go can have costly health and financial consequences. A professional carpet cleaning service will know how to safely handle existing mold and prevent it from growing in the future.

SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach proudly provides a variety of cleaning and restoration services throughout the Florida area. Whether it’s a professional carpet cleaning, water extraction, or fire damage repairs, they specialize in restoring disasters and are committed to helping return homes and businesses to original form. 4 Reasons Why Water Damage Is Dangerous to Your Home & Health

6/1/2018 (Permalink)

Water Damage 4 Reasons Why Water Damage Is Dangerous to Your Home & Health Water Damage

Whether your home has experienced water damage from a flood, leaky appliance, or a burst pipe, it can cause a considerable amount of structural damage. This can also lead to certain health risks if it’s not addressed immediately. The team at SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach, located in Florida, discusses why water damage can be dangerous.

Why Water Damage Is a Hazard

1. Encourages Pest Infestations

Many types of bugs are attracted to moist environments, including cockroaches and termites. These pests leave bacteria, parasites, and pathogens, all of which can negatively affect your health. If you have water leaks, you should get them fixed as soon as possible to discourage infestations.

2. Causes Hidden Mold Growth

Even minor water damage can cause mold to grow in your home. Spores travel through the air and can become lodged in ducts, making it easy for them to reach many areas of the house. Exposure to mold can cause serious health risks, including skin rashes, asthma, and respiratory and sinus infections. A mold remediation team can assess the damage in your home.

3. Rots Wood

Water intrusion can cause structural issues in the wood framing of your house. When there is enough moisture in the wood, fungi that are usually present in the lumber start digesting sugars and proteins in the wood fiber. Wood rot can destroy the strength of the lumber, causing extensive damage to your home.

4. Degrades Wiring

Water damage to your household wiring, whether from a plumbing malfunction or dirty floodwater, can make it unsafe to use power in your home. Since water is an excellent conductor of electricity, it’s important to have the wiring tested by a professional. Moisture can corrode the metal parts and degrade the wiring insulation, which increases the fire risk.

The experienced team at SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach provides 24-hour emergency service when you need emergency cleaning and help repairing water damage. Give them a call at (904) 429-4457. You can also visit them online to learn more about their mold remediation services.

5 Common Causes of Water Damage in Homes

5/30/2018 (Permalink)

Water Damage 5 Common Causes of Water Damage in Homes SERVPRO's trucks out on a large water loss in St Augustine. Local business was in desperate need while receiving inches and inches of water.

A leak anywhere in your home might be barely perceptible until it causes copious amounts of water damage. It’s important to address the issue as soon as you find it to avoid mold, structural issues, and safety concerns. To locate the source of the leak, it helps to know the most likely causes. SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach in St. Johns County, FL, lists the top five events that cause water damage in the home.

The Top Incidents That Cause Water Damage

1. Damaged Appliances

Failing appliances, such as refrigerators, dishwashers, and washing machines, can leak substantial amounts of water at once. Washing machines might overflow from too much pressure on supply lines, while the pipes of old refrigerators may deteriorate and crack. Thankfully, these leaks are relatively easy to pinpoint.

2. Clogged HVAC Unit

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems require regular maintenance. When your AC pulls humidity from the air, the moisture collects in a drain pan and travels down a condensate line. Sludge, mold, and dirt can clog that line and cause water damage.

3. Plumbing Problems

From running toilets to leaking sinks, plumbing issues can become expensive and cause massive amounts of damage if it’s not handled quickly. Though it may start off small, a sudden burst pipe could be disastrous. Listen to make sure your toilet stops running after each flush and check for moisture around the pipes under your sink periodically.

4. Backed Up Sewers

Home sewage backup and flooding is sometimes unpreventable, as it is often caused by heavy rains, damage from tree roots, and collapsed lines. Sewer line leakage presents a toxic biohazard to your home that will require a professional fix and cleaning job. Never try to treat sewage flooding yourself.

5. A Leaking Roof

By the time you notice a leaky roof, you may already be looking at some extensive water damage in your attic and ceiling. If your ceiling only drips when it’s raining out, your roof is the most likely culprit. Continued leaking can ruin the structural integrity of your attic and ceiling and lead to wood rot, mold, and collapse. Have your roof fixed as soon as you notice the leak and see that the water damage is attended to immediately.

If your home has suffered from a bad leak, the cleanup and restoration specialists at SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach can help you recover. Their highly trained staff members will personally come to your home to assess the damage, then offer you the best solution. From simple water extractions to dangerous biohazard cleanup, this local cleaning service can handle any problems caused by water damage. With emergency cleaning services, you won’t be tasked with taking care of this disaster alone. Here’s why you should hire a team of residential or commercial restoration experts to help your property look like new again.

3. Assist With Insurance Claims

A reputable emergency cleaning service will have experience working with insurance companies. They can handle communications with your provider, including processing paperwork and overseeing your claim. This will give you peace of mind and allow you to begin getting your life back to normal.

5 Common Questions About Home Restoration Insurance Claims

Water Damage 5 Common Questions About Home Restoration Insurance Claims If you see our #minicooper around town make sure to snap a picture and post it on social media for a chance to win cool prizes!

Whether your home is damaged by a flood or a fire, getting things back to the way they were can take time—and money. However, when you have the support of your home insurance policy and a trusted restoration company, you can save yourself from the heavy stress and high expenses that are associated with water and fire damage repairs. Since navigating restoration insurance claims can be complex, SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach in Florida answers a few common questions homeowners have about the process.

5 FAQs About Using Home Insurance for Water & Fire Damage Repairs

Will Water & Fire Damage Repairs Be Covered By My Policy?

Technically, most home insurance providers cover restoration work related to fire and water damage. However, this damage typically has to be connected to an event that is covered by your policy—also known as a “peril.” For instance, plumbing emergencies and electrical fires may be acceptable perils, but floods may require additional coverage.

Will Putting Off Repairs Affect My Insurance Policy?

In some cases, fire and water damage may seem minor enough to put off repairs. But, if more damage occurs as a result of negligence, your insurance company may not cover those future claims. By staying proactive and making repairs as soon as possible, you can protect yourself against denied claims down the road.

Should I Call My Insurance Company Before the Restoration Company?

When you have a water and fire damage repair company in mind, it is often best to call them before reaching out to your insurance provider. These professionals will fully document the damage, making it easier to file an accurate claim. They will also provide the proactive care to keep your home safe, as well as prevent further damage.

Can I Choose My Own Restoration Provider?

If you do call your insurance provider first, they may recommend a company for your home repairs. While it’s perfectly acceptable to use these references, it is not required. In fact, it is your right as a policyholder to choose who repairs your property.

When Should I Pay Out-of-Pocket?

If your insurance deductible is higher than the cost of the repairs, it is generally best to pay out-of-pocket. In these instances, you would have been required to pay the whole price anyway without any coverage from your provider. However, many water and fire restoration jobs will exceed the cost of the deductible.

In a perfect world, homeowners would always be able to avoid these situations—but accidents still happen. Fortunately, it’s easy to stay prepared when you have SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach at your side. Providing everything from mold remediation to fire damage repairs, this restoration company will ensure you receive fast, expert care. Why You Should Clean Up Water Damage From Your Carpet Fast.

9/3/2017 (Permalink)

Water Damage Why You Should Clean Up Water Damage From Your Carpet Fast. SERVPRO's crew is getting a quick refresher on carpet restoration and extraction to ensure quality.

Summer means rain in Florida, and St. Augustine residents know hurricane season lasts until November. Downpours can cause water damage to the carpeting in your home or business, and it’s important to act immediately after flooding occurs to salvage its appearance and condition.

Here are three reasons to tackle carpet cleaning right away when your home has sustained water damage:

  • Avoid Long-Term Structural Damage: Water can be a threat to your carpet’s structural integrity, and excessive exposure to moisture is damaging. It’s important to act quickly to minimize the amount of time water has to soak into the rug, increasing your chances of salvaging it.
  • Prevent Mold & Mildew: When flooding occurs, carpet padding acts like a sponge to absorb water. When this moisture sits for too long, mold and mildew can develop in this padding and the rug above it. Not only are these spores harmful to the appearance and condition of your flooring, but they also impact your health. Preventing these growths from occurring is the best way to maintain air quality and reduce allergens.
  • Skip Drywall Replacement: It’s not just your carpet that’s affected by water damage. Moisture that isn’t removed from the floor can run up the walls and soak into the sheet rock. Drywall is porous, and mold cannot be properly cleaned once it forms. The only solution is to cut away the drywall at least 30 cm. above where it got wet. This is a pricey repair, but it can be avoided if water damage is removed quickly from rugs and flooring.

If your carpets are looking worse for wear after a flood, call the pros at SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach. As the premier water damage restorer in the area, this company specializes in storm damage restoration and water extraction. Learn more about the carpet cleaning services available for residential and commercial clients online or by calling (904) 429-4457.

Avoiding Washing Machine Floods 101!

Water Damage Avoiding Washing Machine Floods 101! #Local #Alwaysopen #Restorationlife #Flood #Fire #Mold #Cleaning

Our highly trained production teams here at SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach have been responding to multiple floods that have been cause by washing machines.

Educating our customers is our biggest goal, and we hope to help all of you avoid these expensive and time consuming flood losses. Here are a few simple steps you can take to ensure that your washing machine is secure:

1. Always check your water line connections. Water lines should be air tight, and connections should be checked frequently.

2. Make sure the drain for your washing machine is draining efficiently. Clogged drains are a leading cause for washing machine floods.

3. Do not overload your washer! While doing a large load of laundry is more convenient than doing multiple loads, overloading your washer causes the machine to vibrate and move which can knock loose connections and cause water to overflow.

4. Know where your main water shutoff valve is located! In the event your washing machine does overflow, shutting off the main water supply could save you a lot of time and money.

5. Do not run your washing machine if you are not awake, or not at home. This seems like overkill, but if your washing machine floods, you want to be there to minimize the damage. Standing water that floods into your home can compromise the integrity of your property.

The average water loss costs between $3,000-$8,000 and takes 2-4 weeks to remediate and rebuild. Use these simple steps to help protect your investment.

As always, our advice and opinions are always free, so if you have questions about protecting your home or business, call us at 904-429-4457. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. No job is too big or too small for your #local SERVPRO!

Water Damage Water Damage Tips: 4 Steps to Take While You’re Waiting for Help to Arrive Water Damaged ceilings in this Ponte Vedra home. Call SERVPRO, we now servicing the entire St Johns County! 904-449-4457!

Severe storms often leave homeowners trying to salvage what they can from water damage. If you experience a situation such as this, it’s crucial to call a restoration company you can rely on to repair the damages and return your home back to a clean, safe, and healthy state. However, while you’re waiting for professional help to arrive, there are a few important steps you should take to protect your property and begin the cleanup process.

SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach is the first place Florida residents turn to when disaster strikes. They offer a variety of restoration and cleaning services that allow clients to get back to normal life as quickly as possible. Below, they go over what to do when your home has flooded after a storm:

Assess the Damage

When it’s safe to do so, you will want to inspect your property to see how extensive the damage is. Look for things like missing shingles and holes in the roof, leaks in the ceiling, broken doors and windows, and damage to the siding. This will give you a good idea of whether or not your home is safe to stay in and what repairs will be needed.

Take Safety Precautions

Before doing anything else, make sure you’ve taken the proper precautions to keep yourself safe from harm. If you can get to your electrical panel without having to wade through water, turn off the power to avoid electrocution. You should also wear protective clothing, such as boots and gloves, when walking around inside.

Take Photos

Document all the damage to your home and personal belongings with photos. Go room by room and be thorough; this will serve as critical evidence in your insurance claim. The more documentation you can show, the easier it will be to go through the claims process and get all the compensation you need.

Prevent Further Damages

It’s important that you do whatever’s possible to prevent further water damage. If there is still standing water, pump out what you can and mop up the excess. Your restoration company will be able to implement additional water extraction techniques when they get there. Then, remove any items that haven’t been affected by the water, and get everything off carpeted surfaces. It’s also a good idea to board up broken windows and place a tarp over the roof.

These steps are essential in making sure your home is able to fully recover from water damage. If you need assistance getting your property back to pre-storm condition, contact SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach at (904) 429-4457. How to Prevent Water Damage from Storms or Leaks

7/25/2017 (Permalink)

Water Damage How to Prevent Water Damage from Storms or Leaks Our trucks on a busy morning in front of the SERVPRO's St Augustine shop. 904-429-4457

If you live in an area with extreme weather, then water extraction is an inevitable necessity. But, with preventative measures, you can help avoid water damage in your home and prevent costly repairs. The team at SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach is discussing some of the top ways to prepare for storm season this year.

The Top 3 Ways to Prevent Water Damage

1. Properly Storing Valuables

Since you can’t always avoid storms or leaks, the best way to prevent water from destroying your belongings is with proper storage. Go through your home, garage, and attic and put all your valuables on higher shelves in the rooms. You can also purchase plastic storage bins and stack them on top of one another. In the event of storms or significant leaks, most items will be protected from standing water damage when properly stored.

2. Seasonal Cleaning

Throughout the year, it’s tempting to throw unused items into the basement or garage. But when a big hurricane appears, you might not have time to clear these rooms out. To avoid potential water damage from ruining your items, clean before storm season approaches. Store seasonal items in plastic bins with secure lids, and donate unused belongings to prevent clutter. If a room requires professional water extraction, clutter will only make the problem worse.

3. Gutters

Properly functioning gutters are essential during storm season because they help guide water away from the home and foundation. Clogged gutters can spell disaster. Without anywhere to go, the water will backflow into your home, potentially causing significant water damage. Make it a priority to regularly clean gutters and have them professionally maintained throughout the year.

Whether you need emergency cleaning services or water damage restoration, their team is equipped to handle a wide scope of projects for commercial and residential properties. 7/20/2017 (Permalink)

Water Damage What To Do If Flooding Occurs On Laminate Flooring This is a picture of laminate flooring that was affected by flooding but was never removed. Its discoloration and warping will gradually grow worse.

Part of our responsibilities here at SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine are to educate the public about the proper steps to take after a fire or flood. Recently we had a customer call us and ask what they should do to restore their laminate floors after a flood occurred in their home.  While restoration of materials is our number one goal, laminate flooring unfortunately can’t be restored after a flood. We always prefer to restore rather than replace, but laminate flooring holds moisture that permanently compromises the material. Once laminate flooring gets wet it begins to warp, and unlike solid wood (“real” not compressed wood) flooring the warping on laminate flooring is not reversible by drying. More so, the underlay used in laminate flooring is a vapor barrier designed to protect the flooring from moisture in the concrete slab. Once water gets under the laminate planks it is trapped and all affected laminate flooring must be removed to ensure proper air movement.  If you or someone you know has questions regarding proper remediation techniques, please call us today at 904-429-4457. Our restoration experts are always available and our opinions are always free.

Why professional Water Removal services are needed following a disaster or accident.

12/25/2016 (Permalink)

Water Damage Why professional Water Removal services are needed following a disaster or accident. Building that was not properly restored is not affected by heavy mold contamination.

Disasters happen every single day. They can strike without warning to anybody, anywhere, and at any time. The initial devastation of a flood, fire, or storm can be overwhelming. But there are lingering effects, too, such as water damage, mold, or soot contamination. That’s why emergency cleaning services are so essential after a disaster.

SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach in Florida has been helping families recover from disasters since 1967. They’ve witnessed first-hand the havoc that fires, floods, and other disasters can wreck on residences and businesses. But they also have the expertise to mitigate the damage and restore your home.

Floods and water damage can leave your place a mess; however, tidying things up is only part of the problem. To avoid mold damage—caused by excessive moisture exposure—it is essential to have your place cleaned by a team of professionals.

Mold contamination is certain following water damage, though it can go undetected for years. It poses significant health risks to your family, as well as a long-term hazard to your property and its value. A professional emergency cleaning service has the expertise and equipment to mitigate mold damage.

Likewise, recovering from a fire poses numerous challenges as well. Smoke contamination can make a residence uninhabitable. Scrubbing walls and removing soot and ash is a job best handled by highly trained teams with the latest emergency cleaning service equipment.

Surviving a disaster is physically and emotionally draining. The post-disaster cleanup phase can be incredibly demanding too. It’s a job best left to the professionals who have the experience, know-how, and tools to get it done right. To learn more about emergency cleaning services, please call SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach. You can reach them 24/7 at (904) 429-4457 or visit them online.

Category 3 water damage in St. Augustine.

8/31/2016 (Permalink)

Water Damage Category 3 water damage in St. Augustine. Our negative air machines resting after a hard days work - SERVPRO's St. Augustine location.

When water damage is a result of contaminated water regular air movers cannot be used. Instead per IICRC regulations air scrubbers, aka negative air machines are deployed. In this short video SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine/St. Augustine Beach, located in the heart of the old city off Dobbs Rd. is attempting to demonstrate what a typical Category 3 setup may look like in a residential water damage situation.

Check out this short video highlighting Category 3 setup.

Typically in a category 3 water damage all damaged materials are recommended to be replaced. As part of this project our clients signed a waiver and decided to dry all materials in place, which is a risky choice, albeit we do everything we can to achieve high customer satisfaction and as long as we take time to explain the pitfalls we do what our customer request.

What to do if your home in St. Augustine is affected by water damage.

8/14/2016 (Permalink)

Water Damage What to do if your home in St. Augustine is affected by water damage. Two of our trucks out during commercial water damage response in St. Augustine. SERVPRO - premium restoration services made local.

Having a home by the beach can be a wonderful thing — the sand and water constantly at your fingertips, the wind in your hair, and the sounds of the sea at night — seems like paradise, right? Sometimes, though, unexpected disasters, both large and small, can strike, resulting in a great deal of home water damage. Even if you don’t know what to do when your home suffers from water damage, the professionals at SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine/St. Augustine Beach will be at yourservice for anything you and your house may need.

So what do you do when your home is affected by water damage? First, make sure all of the electricity and electrical power is shut off before you enter your home. This eliminates the risk of being electrocuted by a loose wire or plug. Don’t move too quickly when first getting inside, especially if you have been away for a while — there could be animals living or hiding under pieces of furniture or debris. As you survey the extent of the water damage, cover and protect yourself as much as possible. This means wearing safety goggles, heavy-duty water boots, and rubber gloves. While you’re looking around, take note of anything that absorbs water, like blankets; these will have to be thrown away since they become a breeding ground for microbes and bacteria.

After this, you will have to wait for a professional to arrive to perform a water extraction. They can adequately locate where pockets of moisture are in the house, and get rid of them. The technicians will be able to quicken the drying process to avoid mold.

SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine/St. Augustine Beach is a local business that offers 24-hour emergency services. They specialize in water damage, along with fire damage, mold remediation, storm damage restoration, and cleaning, for both commercial and residential buildings.

Commercial Damage Restoration by SERVPRO's St. Augustine Location

6/6/2016 (Permalink)

Water Damage Commercial Damage Restoration by SERVPRO's St. Augustine Location One of our trucks we playfully call "Boris" is out on a Commercial job downtown St. Augustine.

When a commercial building is in good condition, property managers won’t expect the slightest water leak in the ceiling to cause a major problem. However, an instantaneous pipe bursting can cause a catastrophe due to flooding. Water damage is a major issue and, if not properly handled, it can cause a building to have mold and a deteriorating structure due to water damage.

Here are three reasons to use SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine/St. Augustine Beach in Florida to restore, clean, and repair commercial buildings after water damage:

  • Remove The Water Damage: To fix the situation in a timely manner, property owners hire professionals who specialize in water damage restoration to repair the structure, flooring, and any items that can be saved. SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach is here to help with water damage restoration and cleanup restoration.
  • Avoid Losing Business:When a flood happens, business owners aren’t prepared to close up shop and lose business over it. With this in mind, professionals who work closely with commercial restoration will help bring your businesses back up and running. SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach offers cleaning services to help restore businesses and have them back up and running without major damage.
  • Prevent Further Damage: Water damage can cause an unpleasant odor; it also sinks into the walls and flooring causing discoloration and mold. Drying the area with excessive heat causes humidity to increase; this leads to bacteria. To prevent this, commercial businesses must act quickly as possible by calling an emergency cleaning service.

SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine/St. Augustine Beach’s services include water damage restoration, mold remediation, storm restoration, fire damage repair, and commercial cleaning services. Their professionals understand how important it is to fix an emergency situation and keep a business operating. To schedule an appointment, call them at (904) 429-4457.

We then dropped in on one of our commercial cleanings projects – the St. Augustine Youth Center.  Drove out to residential fire damage (paint and seal stages), delivered supplies to a baseboard install at St. Augustine Beach home damaged by a flash flood from a nearby construction site, and finally visited one of our newer water damage projects in a brand World Golf Village neighborhood.

Water Damage Restoration: How to Prevent Water Damage to Your Flooring

5/6/2016 (Permalink)

Water Damage Water Damage Restoration: How to Prevent Water Damage to Your Flooring Finally someone with some swagger!!! Rocking the SERVPRO Green in St. Augustine!

No matter what kind of flooring you have, it only takes a few hours for water damage to begin, starting a chain of events that could end with expensive repair bills. When a broken pipe or missing shingles pour water onto your carpet or hardwood flooring, time is of the essence. The water damage restoration experts at SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach in Florida have some tips for mitigating the worst of the damage.

As soon as you discover standing water in your home, it's important to:

  • Stop The Flow: Whenever possible, you should immediately find the source of the water penetration and do what you can to stop or slow it down. If a pipe is broken, you may need to shut off water to the entire house; for a leaking roof, you might just have to wait out the storm.
  • Remove As Much Water As Possible: If the water penetrates down into the subflooring, the wood can warp and play home to dangerous mold growths. Open up all the windows, point fans outside, and soak up as much of the water as you can.
  • Call A Professional: In truth, a complete water damage restoration service requires the experience and specialized training of a professional; they can identify potential problems and prevent them from occurring in the future. This is especially true if your flooring suffered from exposure to contaminated water, which may render your home unsafe until the issue is dealt with.
  • No matter what kind of disaster you're dealing with, you can rely on the experts at SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine / St. Augustine Beach to completely restore your home or commercial property to pristine condition. Call (904) 429-4457 to schedule a quote today.

Water Damage Anatomy of Water Damage, by SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine/St. Augustine Beach. SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine/St. Augustine Beach brings superior damage restoration service closer to St. Augustine and it's surrounding ares!

Experiencing a Water Damage (or any other damage) in your residence or business is one of the more stressful experiences anyone can go through. Often, your most valued asset/s are damaged, the scenes are chaotic, decisions must be quick and precise, and all desired outcomes depend on what happens next.

Restoration industry in North Florida offers a great variety of companies, ranging from smaller ‘mom and pop’ type of operations such as Rainbow Restoration to bigger names such as SERVPRO and anything in between.  There are many advantages of hiring an established name in the damage restoration industry, here are just a few advantages SERVPRO offers over competition:

    ·         No job is too small or too big – if additional equipment is needed for commercial damage restoration projects we are able to leverage the vast network of SERVPRO franchises, as well as SERVPRO Strom Teams and Corporate headquarters in Gallatin, with a 24hr turnaround guarantee (equipment shipment)

    ·         Internal ability to develop customized chemicals – there are many chemicals in our arsenal readily available, albeit if a specialty solution is needed it can be prepared at SERVPRO’s chemical plant in Gallatin, Tn.

    ·         Established more than 50 years ago SERVPRO brand brings experience and knowhow unmatched in the restoration industry, i.e. - there are many established treatment protocols, well researched practices, state of the art equipment packages for franchises and well aligned back office support.

It really would take a separate essay to list all of the advantages SERVPRO brand offers in St. Augustine, but for the purpose of this argument we will stop with the above listed.

The choice is clear! In a Water Damage, Fire Damage, Mold Remediation, or any other Restoration need St. Augustine residents and businesses can rely on SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine/St. Augustine Beach. In addition to all of the so called brand attributes SERVPRO’s St. Augustine location offers the following advantages over competition and even other SERVPRO locations:

    ·         IICRC certified technicians – in short IICRC is an entity that regulates damage restoration, not all restoration companies have IICRC certified technicians, we do

    ·         Technicians who handle multiple aspects of damage restoration and even reconstruction, which allows them to be versatile and provide an insight into damage remediation that typically cannot come from a “one trick pony” type of technicians, many restoration outlets rely on specialty tasking

    ·         Strategic location that allows SERVPRO of Greater St. Augustine/St. Augustine Beach to provide timely response, aka be “Faster to Any Size Disaster”!
